Dil Bechara (transl. The helpless heart) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic drama film which is the directorial debut of Mukesh Chhabra. Based on John Green’s 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars, it marks the last film of its lead actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died on 14 June 2020 before its release, shortly after filming ended.
It also stars Saif Ali Khan and debutante Sanjana Sanghi, and was supposed to be titled Kizie Aur Manny earlier; filming commenced on 9 July 2018 in Jamshedpur.
The film’s release has been postponed multiple times, due to post-production delays and then again due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. It will release on 24 July 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar.
First look poster was released when shooting began, featuring back of Sanghi and Rajput sitting at a bus stop with an oxygen cylinder next to them.It was shared by Rajput via his Twitter handle, with scheduled premiere date of 29 November 2019 in theatres.
The film was postponed because of pending work of post-production. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced on 15 November 2019 that the film would now hit theatrical screens on 8 May 2020. However it was again postponed as the cinemas were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India as of 17 March 2020.
The film marks the last screen appearance of Sushant Singh Rajput, who died on 14 June 2020 at his Bandra home near Mumbai, before its release.
On 25 June 2020, Fox Star Studios announced that the movie will be streaming for free irrespective of subscriptions on Disney+ Hotstar from 24 July 2020.
